Now that summer season is upon us, Montauk will soon be waking up from its winter slumber and droves of Long Islanders will be heading out east to “The End” to relax and take advantage of the weather and the location. One of the spots that is great for a cheap and quick bite is Sausages Pizza & Pastabilities, located on Montauk Hwy.
Back in the day (mid-90’s) Caruso’s Pizza was the place to go for those kids growing up in the Plainview area. A lot has changed since that time. Waldbaums, the anchor store back then has transitioned to Fairway Market and Caruso’s is now known as Umberto’s Pizza of Plainview. Upon a recent visit we saw that although the name may have changed, the great pizza hasn’t.
Little Sweet Jamaica is a diamond in the rough. Owned by sisters who started in Jamaica working in restaurants and eventually made their way out to New York, this is a local spot that is cheap on price and extravagant on flavor.
If you love Love Lane Kitchen in Mattituck, you’ll be glad to know that a few months ago, in 2011, the owners set up shop just next door with their organic and local-centric market, Love Lane Market. The market is a great spot to capture a lot of the overflow from the Kitchen, known for its exceptional food and its long waits (especially on weekends).
Pizza places are a dime a dozen on Long Island (as are sushi and yogurt spots, among others), so this week’s Street Level series features Cinelli’s in Oceanside. Located on the corner of Davison Avenue and Oceanside Road, this is a convenient spot to pull in and eat in or take out. For those who wish to dine at home, they also have a fleet of marked cars waiting for delivery.
