At The Chef’s Corner Cafe in Mineola, something special is happening. Through the friendship between owners Maryellen Villalta and Chef Israel Aguilar, they’re taking their great working relationship and putting it towards building some wonderful cuisine that both Mineola residents and workers alike are flocking to.
Real Jewish delis are hard to come by these days. As Wally Goetz, the owner of Lido Kosher Deli will tell you, it’s a dying breed. Lido Kosher Deli is a hub of activity on the south shore. During our lunchtime visit there were streams of people coming in to take out and sit down at one of the best on the island.
Bigelow’s Seafood has been a mainstay of Long Island’s south shore since way back in 1939. Something of a relic around these parts, it’s known as one of the best spots in the area to get fresh seafood, fried clams and belly warming soup. It’s one of those restaurants that we always passed, swearing to go in the next time we were around. Thankfully, that visit just came. And it was worth the wait.
Between Winthrop Hospital, the courts and the burgeoning residential scene in Mineola, there’s good reason to be kept in the know on what’s happening on the culinary front. This convenient-to-the-train dependable chinese spot will have you looking forward to your next lunch or dinner excursion there and it will also leave your wallet intact and satisfied that you didn’t drain it of its contents.
