La Gioconda, an italian restaurant located just across from the Great Neck Plaza LIRR station has closed it doors in 2014 and it comes as quite a surprise (to us). A quaint, dimly lit and intimate restaurant and catering operation, we were surprised to hear the news of their demise as we have dined there numerous times over the past 7 or so years and each time that we had visited the restaurant was pretty busy.
Sad Food News coming out of Merrick today. Kevin Liebov, the owner/chef of Nicholas James Bistro in Merrick has announced that they have shuttered their doors, after 19 years in service, mostly due to economic reasons and the increasing rents that are turning up on Merrick Road.
Riverbay, a long-time mainstay and fixture on Willis Avenue in Williston Park has served its last dish. Closing to make way for a new bank location, this Poll family owned restaurant and building will not be pleasing diners any longer.
We’ve just received news that The Crazy Donkey, a constant on the LI music scene for the past ten years has shuttered their doors. The busy bar / music venue has suffered the fate of many venues in the past few years and the hope is that they’ll reinvent and turn the space into something new.
We can’t say that we didn’t see this coming but Table 9, which has been under new ownership for the past year and a half or so has gone from operating to closed in the blink of an eye.
There’s nothing more depressing than seeing a childhood eatery abandoned and with a “For Rent” sign in the window. But, like life itself, the restaurant world isn’t fair sometimes and it is with a fond farewell that we bid adieu to Morgo’s Dynasty in Plainview.
