Master Baker Buddy Valastro has spent the past few years across from us, two rivers away in Hoboken, NJ, but now he’s taking advantage of both his hugely successful tv presence (Cake Boss, of course) and the insatiable need for all things baked to bring Carlo’s Bakery to the Gallery at Westbury Plaza in Garden City; his first Long Island location.
When Bottomz Up Bar & Grill abruptly closed their location in Carle Place (they have another location that is still open in Manhattan), we didn’t know what would happen with that large space. Now we know as the Manning’s Pub & Grill sign is up on the exterior facade and the Now Hiring sign adorns the windows. Poking our heads into the restaurant, we saw that crews were hard at work on the interior and the signage is up inside as well.
Our very first foray into sushi was way back around 1991 when Hama Sushi in Plainview was then known as Yamato. A lot of time has passed but one thing has stayed the same; this spot is continuing to pump out superb sushi and other Japanese cuisine.
Vincent’s Clam Bar in Carle Place is a treat for those who love festive atmospheres, homemade food, large portions and friendly staff. We’ve been coming here for years and with good reason; it’s affordable, fun and yummy.
When we first posted about Shake Shack’s opening (it’s today!), we promised that we would have some pictures for our readers to get a first look. We visited their pre-opening trial and our camera was with us the entire way.
Shake Shack, a virtual institution across New York City and most recently expanding across the country is setting its sights on Long Island with their new location, opening on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the new Gallery at Westbury Plaza shopping center located in Garden City.
Edit: Now Open for Business
Where the pet store Safari Stan’s once sat on Old Country Road, a new hotspot is getting ready to open. Now under construction and hiring waitresses and bartenders, Bottomz Up will likely be aligning themselves with the other nearby restaurants and bars that rely heavily on scantily clad servers (CANZaciti Roadhosue and Hooters, namely). Where they hope to step in front of their competition is the quality of their cuisine.
PASSIONE is new to the Carle Place dining scene. It sits in the same shopping center as the now defunct 6th Avenue Electronics store and is just a few doors down from one of the area’s favorite restaurants, LL Dent. During the construction period they had big signs up that they were coming soon, but we didn’t know what to expect at all. We ventured inside recently to scope out the space and we were genuinely surprised at what was lying inside.
Taco Joe’s on Merrick Road in Massapequa is a great counter-service, kid-friendly Mexican restaurant with the benefit of a Yogurt & Such built-in for those after dinner dessert options (and a small yogurt is included in the kids meal as well.) We’re happy to report that they’re making the move to the north shore as well with their now under-construction shop on Old Country Rd.
