Smith Street Deli, a mainstay in the Merrick area is now set to a second location in Bellmore. A slight change to their name, going by Smith Street Deli South, this will move them down to a location south of Sunrise Highway (their Merrick location is located north of Sunrise near the Meadowbrook Parkway).
Lil’ Left Coast, the little brother to Merrick’s popular Left Coast Kitchen has announced that they are shuttering their doors on the concept. Acknowledging that the Lil’ Left Coast concept was “not concise enough” and that it was an overly ambitious menu, it never completely caught on and ultimately cost too much to run.
Long Island Food News: Long Island’s First Chick-Fil-A To Open in Port Jefferson Station on September 30, 2015
Good news to those on Long Island that have been desperately waiting for a local Chick-Fil-A to open (closed Sundays, of course). The new location will be located on Nesconset Highway in Port Jefferson Station and will be opening up on September 30, 2015.
They’ve conquered the North Shore and now they have their sights set on taking over the South Shore. Del Fuego, with successful locations in St. James on the North Shore and Babylon on the South Shore, has expanded their horizons to Patchogue at their new location on busy W. Main Street.
In somewhat-surprising news, Mitchell’s, one of Oceanside’s most notable diners, will be closing their doors to the public on Sunday, July 12, 2015. While we visited their diner multiple times over the years (some for Restaurant Hunter, on FiOS1 and then on our own with friends and family), we were always excited at finishing up dinner with one of their legendary ice cream treats.
The Greene Turtle, a Maryland based sports bar and restaurant that opened in Franklin Square not too long ago is taking over the space that was formerly occupied by the long-standing Hooters in East Meadow. This new location will fit in perfectly with both the residential community and the nearby Hofstra University students (especially those that are of age to enjoy their Mug Club).
Margarita’s Cafe on Front Street in East Meadow has to be one of our favorite Mexican restaurants on Long Island. It’s a continually festive atmosphere with nightly lines out the doors. If you’re thinking of going there on a weekend night, reservations are an absolute must. Come January 20th the lines may get a little bit easier when their newest (and 3rd overall) location opens on Wantagh Avenue in Wantagh.
The North Fork has a lot of things. It has Greenport, Riverhead and Southold. Each of those locations have an abundant supply of restaurants and shops for visitors and residents to bask in. What they don’t have however is a selection of worthy coffee roasters to enjoy some freshly roasted beans any day of the weak. North Fork Roasting Co. in Southold will be opening soon to change that very fact.
Sad news coming out of East Meadow today. According to Newsday, Sacramone’s, an italian restaurant that is very well known for its delicious pizza and other italian staples will be closing their doors on August 15th, just a few days away.
Update on 10/2/14: They’re open for business!
Cook’s Scratch Kitchen & Bakery, a very popular and well received restaurant located in Northport just announced that they will be opening up a new bakery / cafe be serving all of their fresh-baked pastries along with an abridged lunch menu to assist customers of the shop (and visitors) with their in-store refueling.
