When we last visited Valley Stream’s favorite hibachi restaurant, Inatome, they were a few days away from their re-opening. Stricken by a fire on Halloween three years ago, they rebuilt better than ever. Although we had an exclusive photo tour of the restaurant, we needed to return to actually experience the food; and what a wonderful meal it was.
When Relish opened roughly two years ago in Kings Park, on Suffolk County’s north shore, owner / chef Stephen Cardello (formerly the chef at Grey Horse Tavern in Bayport) probably couldn’t have imagined its success and popularity with local foodies. Their weekend breakfast has been creating plenty of buzz in local circles and helping their cause is their location; on the corner of Main Street and also close to many of their suppliers. This has led to creative, fresh and seasonal fare.
When we saw that PLANCHA, a new Tapas and Wine Bar was opening up in Garden City, our intuition told us that Josh, Jonathan and Lily, the trio behind one of our favorite spots on the South Shore, Salumi, in Massapequa, were behind this new spot. Our suspicions were confirmed and with that knowledge in our hands, we knew that diners were in for something special on the North Shore.
Although Grillfire in Merrick may be known most for their excellent hamburgers (their own special blend, mixed for them by Main Street Meats), they also have a great Sunday brunch experience. Over the years we have frequented this popular spot, conveniently located on Sunrise Highway, to wind down the weekend and usher in the day of rest.
For our last regular segment on the wildly popular Restaurant Hunter on FiOS1 Long Island it was fitting that we sat down at Big Daddy’s in Massapequa Park for our proper send-off. With a New Orleans festive atmosphere we were able to enjoy the cuisine for this going away party.
Just south of Atlantic Avenue and on the way to the Nautical Mile lies Bagel Dock and Cafe, a local bagel shop that through thick and thin has survived to stay open and provide those heading to the open waters (and to work) with freshly baked bagels, muffins, salads and more.
Rustica Brick Oven Cafe in Garden City South is known for having amazing pizza, but they’re also heating things up with their Gluten Free menu; which includes a variety of pasta dishes and traditional italian favorites. Located on Nassau Boulevard, Rustica is changing the landscape of healthier, gluten free restaurants on the island and are catering to a whole section of diners who are diet restricted (all diners can enjoy their gluten-free options as they haven’t lost any of their taste). We stopped by to say hello and to photograph (and taste) some of their best dishes.
Cipollini Pronto may be the sister-restaurant to Cipollini, located just next door (they even share a kitchen), but to those looking for a quick coffee or a bite to eat while shopping, this is the perfect spot to relax, refuel and get on with your day.
San Marzano, the intensely popular brick oven pizza joint on Merrick Avenue in Merrick will be temporarily closing its doors on August 12th to make way for a new and improved spot.
When Freeport, along with the rest of the island, was ravaged by Hurricane Sandy, the damage caused to Hudson & McCoy was enough to set into motion a chain of events that led to Hudson & McCoy to be evicted and a new tenant to come to the table. Enter Hudson’s on the Mile.
