Master Baker Buddy Valastro has spent the past few years across from us, two rivers away in Hoboken, NJ, but now he’s taking advantage of both his hugely successful tv presence (Cake Boss, of course) and the insatiable need for all things baked to bring Carlo’s Bakery to the Gallery at Westbury Plaza in Garden City; his first Long Island location.
Margarita’s Cafe on Front Street in East Meadow has to be one of our favorite Mexican restaurants on Long Island. It’s a continually festive atmosphere with nightly lines out the doors. If you’re thinking of going there on a weekend night, reservations are an absolute must. Come January 20th the lines may get a little bit easier when their newest (and 3rd overall) location opens on Wantagh Avenue in Wantagh.
Occupying the space that was formerly the Golden Pear Cafe in Stony Brook, Crazy Beans is now open for business. The original location, in Miller Place, is still running strong and they’ve been pumping up the new Stony Brook location on Facebook and through social media outreach. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner this is a great day for Stony Brook and for the Long Island early morning food scene. Make sure to stop in and try their coffee, which customers continually rave about.
Besides Zim Zari being a pretty cool place to hit up in Massapequa Park, on Long Island’s South Shore, they have a built in incentive to visit on Sunday; kids eat for free with a purchase of an adult meal.
Today marks St. Patrick’s Day and what better way to ring that in than to focus on one of the island’s best watering holes that also serves great food; Corry’s Ale House, located in Wantagh.
Sure, it may be consistently below freezing now and for the past few months, but where others see a reason to stay home and sit in front of the fire, we see an opportunity to get out and try new and exciting yogurt shops. Who else in their right minds would want freezing desserts on a freezing day? We may be in a minority, but we’ll enjoy every chance that we can get. YOLO Yogurt in Roslyn is slower than normal due to the weather conditions, so this is your time to pounce. In the summer months we often have to wait on long lines to pay while our yogurt melts, but this time of year, that is not an issue.
We’re huge fans of Mediterranean cuisine and we’re also big on the concept of fast-casual, a genre that favorites such as Chiptole excel at all over the island. For years we have passed by Wild Fig on Northern Boulevard without going inside. If we had known that this location was a mash-up of all of those things that we love, we would have visited years sooner.
The Riverhead Project in Riverhead is unique for the area. At the entry point to the north fork, it’s proving to be not only one of the most popular spots, but it is also one of the most revered for its unique space, excellent cuisine and busy lounge area.
