Xaga Sushi in Merrick
We’ll admit that we walked into Xaga Sushi in Merrick a bit skeptical. The restaurant is relatively new and our only source of information who we know that went there was very unimpressed with their experience at the restaurant. Happily, we can report that Xaga fared better for us this time around than for our good friend.
The restaurant was previously occupied by Pantano’s, a local pizza store. We had visited the restaurant at that time and were eager to see the transformation that the new owners had put into place. The decor was very nice; with an asian modern flare. The bi-level seating is still in play and available for those who would like to go upstairs for a more private dinner out.
The sushi was excellent and between the three of us at the table, we nibbled on 6 rolls, some of them off of their pricier sushi menu (Crazy Tuna Roll, Snow Mountain Roll, etc.) and then your standard california roll.
We had relatively little cooked food; we ordered an appetizer of edamame and spring rolls and had a side of chicken fried rice for the toddler that was with us. Each of those three dishes were tasty and great as well (we could’ve ordered more!) Of the sushi, our favorites were the Snow Mountain Roll (shrimp tempura and cucumber with lobster and caviar on top) and the Crazy Tuna Roll.
We’re happy to report that we would visit again, given the opportunity. Next time, we might mix it up a bit and try out the Hewlett location as well.
