Three French Restaurants Across Long Island

Three French Restaurants Across Long Island

If you could judge a cuisine’s popularity by how many restaurants are serving it across the island, French cuisine wouldn’t be at the top of the list. Just because it hasn’t caught on as much as, say, sushi or burritos doesn’t mean that we should sit back idly and let it be pushed to the side. It’s with this in mind that we’ve traversed the island and hand-picked some of the best french restaurants around.

Long Island is a large geographical area and it can be difficult to hit all of the areas in both counties. Let’s start on the North Shore of Nassau County and wind our way south and then finish it up on the north shore of Suffolk.

North Shore Nassau:
La Coquille
Classic French fare, open 42 years and specializing in Duck L’Orange. They cater to the upscale north shore crowd but their newer bar area off the dining room offers a more modern menu in more relaxed atmosphere as well for those wanting to “dip their toes in” to the french fare. The decor is tastefully done (read: expensive), and you’ll have to enter this bland strip mall storefront to find out. Once you’re in, though, you’ve entered another world.

South Shore Nassau:
Aperitif
Owned by the same group as Brasserie Persil in Oceanside (among a few others), they’re a new and noteworthy addition to the Rockville Centre culinary experience. With a great brunch menu as well and a traditional bistro dinner the interior filled with red hues and dark woods clamor the senses to transport you to a cozy french bistro.

North Shore Suffolk:
Bistro Cassis
Moules and frites are two foods that we could subsist on entirely, and Bistro Cassis does those quite well. This Huntington institution is reminiscent of an old french film and the only thing they’re missing is the pretty ladies smoking cigarettes at the outdoor tables. They can call us customers any day.
