Searching for a respectable dim sum restaurant on Long Island is a formidable task. When throwing out ideas for a Sunday morning meal, we turned to the twitter-sphere to get some ideas. We heard great things from multiple sources about Fortune Wheel in Levittown and as a result, we high-tailed it on over.
Bear in mind that the pictures that you see below were taken at 10:30am on a Sunday morning. We know plenty about American fare brunch restaurants on Long Island but the thought that Fortune Wheel is packed to the gills on a Sunday morning at 10:30am says something both about the restaurant and about the food.
Most of the waitstaff speaks little to no english, so it is helpful that when they bring out the food, they will point to the menu, which has Chinese characters and english translation side by side. Some dishes that you may see passing by your table are pretty exotic, so having this translation helps immensely.
With dim sum, the dishes come around fast and furious. The waitstaff passes by your table with each dish and if you would like to take it, you do so and then they mark down the price on your check. The more you order, the more expensive your meal is. The plates are small and the prices are reasonable, so you can feel free to order something, even if you’re not sure if you’ll like it. It won’t break the bank.
This was an excellent meal that broke free of our Sunday tradition of pancakes and eggs. Something this different and this tasty had us feeling as though were were in another country enjoying the food of the land. We guess that’s the point, after all.
