The Phoenix in Seaford

Sometimes driving around will take you to a new restaurant on a whim. Driving on Merrick Road in Seaford the other night aimlessly for somewhere to dine, our eye caught The Phoenix, a newly opened restaurant of less than 6 weeks. Before hitting the next light, we did some research online and found that the overall reviews were positive thus far, so we decided to stake it out and head in.

Not knowing what to expect when we arrived, we were greeted to a dimly lit restaurant with blacks and reds strewn throughout. The owner of The Phoenix also owns The Good Life in Massapequa, so we knew that this small plates / sharing menu would be reliable. Craft beers at the bar, interesting wine offerings and a large variety of dishes has made us a fan. We took a seat at one of the bar-side high tables, looked over the menu for a few minutes and starting shooting off our order to the waitress (side-note: the entire staff at The Phoenix were the nicest waitstaff and most attentive that we had ever met).

Because the plates are smaller, they’re meant for sharing with the table. Between two people, you can comfortably order 2-3 dishes each and not overstuff yourself. There is enough variety on the menu to satisfy a wide range of palates, so stepping out of your comfort zone is achievable, since each dish is proportionately smaller (don’t feel guilty about ordering a dish just to see if you’ll like it – it’s cheap enough to not feel cheated if you don’t).

Each dish that we touched, we loved. There was nothing undercooked, over-seasoned or underwhelming. We were in foodie heaven. We’ll throw our hats in the ring to say that The Phoenix is presently our favorite new restaurant of 2012. Take a peek at the pictures that we snapped of the cuisine and then hit up the restaurant to judge for yourself.
