Pete’s Pitaria in Island Park
Pete’s Pitaria is one of those restaurants that has been around on Long Island forever. As the name would suggest, they have loads of pita breads that are served daily and with that, healthy skewered combinations with hummus and Greek salads are coming off the line daily.
A small restaurant (that is cash only), Pete’s is located in Island Park, a waterfront town that that was heavily damaged during Hurricane Sandy. Not located on the waterfront (like Jordan’s Lobster Farms or Pop’s Seafood Shack), Pete’s sits on Nassau Blvd., the main drag that leads all the way to Long Beach. The restaurant is perfect for either take out or dine-in, but be prepared to wait if you happen upon them during a busy time of the day as seating is limited.
As far as the cuisine, there are great Mediterranean options such as gyros, falafel, souvlaki and different salads and platters, all available with a side of hummus and a well baked pita bread. Pete’s is like a taste of Greece on the south shore of Long Island and we’re loving every minute of it.
