Maragarita’s Cafe in East Meadow
For years, Margarita’s Cafe in East Meadow (in the East Meadow Bowl shopping center) has been a staple of our dining experiences. Many people who live within a 5-10 minute range of this restaurant / bar don’t know that it is there, and that’s not such a bad thing. On weekend nights the wait for a table can top an hour; but at least the great bar is there to pop out an endless supply of margaritas and other drinks while you wait.
Willy, the owner, is always on hand to meet and greet diners as they come into the door. The weekends can feel like a party; with the mariachi band providing songs all night long as they parade through the dining room and stop at various tables for requests. During the week, there is no band and the lines are practically non-existent so if that’s more your speed, this would be a great time to visit.
Diners can start off the meal with table-side guacamole, a favorite of everyone that we have visited with. The cart is wheeled over, the waiter asks if you would like it mild or spicy and you can watch as they cut up and scoop the avocado, place the ingredients in the bowl and whip up a great appetizer on demand (tips are appreciated). Entrees are all over the map with choices ranging from tacos and enchiladas to salads and seafood specialties. They really have something for everyone.
A festive atmosphere, Margarita’s is one of the perfect spots on Long Island for tables of 10-12 to get together and have a great time over great food. Make sure to have a reservation secured to ensure that everyone isn’t just sitting around and waiting. Even if you do have to wait, it is well worth it.
