For the past six years, Nonnina Italian Bistro in West Islip has been catering to an upscale, mostly local clientele with its excellent dinner service. It’s an upscale atmosphere, complete with a lounge area with fireplace, bi-level dining and a romantic and dark mood. We hopped into the kitchen to photograph some of their dishes as they were coming off of the line.

Nonnina in italian means “little grandma” and Nonnina is bringing the comfortable feel that grandma used to elicit straight out of the kitchen and to their customers. The menu is heavy in pasta and seafood favorites while also offering a variety of dishes for landlovers as well. The cheese bar, with its antique prosciutto slicer is providing excellent cheese and meat plates as well.

Nonnina has a few special nights during the week for diners to enjoy something special. On Wednesday nights, they have “Half Off Wine Wednesdays”; with a 50% discount off any bottle of wine. At these prices, it could be cheaper to buy a bottle at the restaurant to enjoy at table side than it would be by buying at a local wine shop. Alternatively, on Sundays, they offer a Family Style menu, which is more expensive per dish, but larger in size. That is definitely a bigger bang for your buck.
