Owner Joseph DeNicola has hit the mark again (his other Long Island restaurants, Ruvo East, Ruvo West and La Tavola have been pleasing Suffolk crowds for years) with his new location, Del Fuego, in St. James. This tiny area is packed with great restaurants, and this hopping Tex-Mex joint adds just one more to the growing list of reasons that we love St. James.

The sign as you walk in the door alerts you to what you should expect from Del Fuego:
“We Play Loud Music & Cheer For Our Favorite Sports Teams….*Proceed With Caution*”
Discussing the sign with the staff, we came to learn that at some point a patron had complained about these such things at the restaurant and since then they have placed up the sign. It’s with this snarky attitude that Del Fuego strives. They don’t take themselves seriously, but what they do take seriously is the cuisine and drinks. A healthy selection of Tequilas litter the bar area to make some of your favorite margaritas. Because they opened in the winter of 2011, there’s no fancy frozen machine and they’re not yet sure if they’ll be installing one in the future.

It’s a colorful and fun restaurant with traditional Mexican cuisine showing smatterings of guacamole, chipotle wings, fajitas, black beans and rice and of course, Tequilla, offering up a laid-back dining experience that is also easy on the wallet.
