Aji 53 in Bay Shore
When I came to Aji 53, I didn’t arrive with the intent to review the restaurant; I was actually walking into a blind date. I was pleasantly surprised by Aji 53 as I hadn’t done more to scope out the restaurant other than a quick glance at the website to find the address.
The décor of the restaurant gives off a warm Asian contemporary feel that says “you’ll have a good time here.” The style and layout of the restaurant compliments the Japanese Fusion Cuisine nicely and the service was expedient and friendly.
The menu had an expansive selection which made choosing quite difficult. I ordered a salmon avocado and cucumber roll and the Mango Madness roll. The Mango Madness roll is one of twenty signature rolls Aji 53 offers and is salmon wrapped in slices of mango topped with a sweet chili mayo sauce. The roll was great and the sauce was excellent. My date ordered a spicy tuna roll and theFire Islandroll. TheFire Islandroll is shrimp tempura with spicy tuna topped with a wasabi sauce and was also very good.
We went for lunch and I would definitely like to go back at night. The restaurant had both a sushi bar, which is expected, and a drink bar in a separate area. I would be interested to see the difference in traffic and environment at night. The next time I find myself at Aji 53 I would like to try out a main entrée and have a drink or two. Aji 53 is definitely a tier one Asian fusion restaurant and I am happy to recommend it. Oh, and in case you were wondering the date went well and we’ll be seeing each other again.
