We know that summer is arriving and things are kicking into high gear because South Edison, located way out east in Montauk, just off Montauk Highway, is now officially open for the 2012 season.
We spent some time recently at Bistro 72, located within the Hotel Indigo out in Riverhead. We spent a full night taking in the sounds of the live music, the bartenders at the bar and the food coming out of the kitchen. This first video features their signature drink, The Long Island Lighthouse.
Throughout our recent travels in Medford, we were surprised to see that the very popular First National Franks, on 112, had changed to a new hot dog spot, Hot Diggity Dogs.
If you love Love Lane Kitchen in Mattituck, you’ll be glad to know that a few months ago, in 2011, the owners set up shop just next door with their organic and local-centric market, Love Lane Market. The market is a great spot to capture a lot of the overflow from the Kitchen, known for its exceptional food and its long waits (especially on weekends).
Years ago, a Best Western sat off of exit 72 of the LIE, just next to Tanger Outlets. It wasn’t anything much to look at. It did its job; catering to those looking for a quick getaway to the entryway of the north fork, or a respite between shopping marathons. With time, the tide has changed and the new owners have not only Manhattan-ized the hotel (read: trendy), they’ve also installed Bistro 72, serving up fantastic drinks and cuisine.
Owner Joseph DeNicola has hit the mark again (his other Long Island restaurants, Ruvo East, Ruvo West and La Tavola have been pleasing Suffolk crowds for years) with his new location, Del Fuego, in St. James. This tiny area is packed with great restaurants, and this hopping Tex-Mex joint adds just one more to the growing list of reasons that we love St. James.
Four Food Studio and Cocktail Salon in Melville set a new benchmark of design and atmosphere on Long Island when it opened back in 2006. A decor that represents the four seasons; winter, spring, summer and fall have never looked better.
On Stewart Avenue, located south of Main Street in Huntington, just off the beaten path, lies Bin 56, a small plates / tapas bar and restaurant that caters as much to wine as it does to small plates.
One of our favorite aspects of having this great website is trekking around the island and picking out interesting businesses to feature for our loyal readers. Driving through Huntington on many occasions in the past few years, we’ve always passed by Wild Flours, a unique bakery on New Street. This time, we elected to stop in and snap some photos.
The very first time we visited Nisen Sushi in Commack quite some time ago (even before our visit to their sister in Woodbury) we were fooled by the drawn shades that covered the window and left before ever entering, thinking that they had closed shop. Thankfully, the next time we were wrong. A last ditch effort to gauge whether or not they were still around was met with relief as we entered this vibrant, happening sushi lounge.
