Master Baker Buddy Valastro has spent the past few years across from us, two rivers away in Hoboken, NJ, but now he’s taking advantage of both his hugely successful tv presence (Cake Boss, of course) and the insatiable need for all things baked to bring Carlo’s Bakery to the Gallery at Westbury Plaza in Garden City; his first Long Island location.
Now that summer season is upon us, Montauk will soon be waking up from its winter slumber and droves of Long Islanders will be heading out east to “The End” to relax and take advantage of the weather and the location. One of the spots that is great for a cheap and quick bite is Sausages Pizza & Pastabilities, located on Montauk Hwy.
Besides Zim Zari being a pretty cool place to hit up in Massapequa Park, on Long Island’s South Shore, they have a built in incentive to visit on Sunday; kids eat for free with a purchase of an adult meal.
You may not know Jack’s Shack in Glen Head but you probably know its owner. Willie Degel, host of the wildly popular Food Network show Restaurant Stakeout and who is also the owner of Uncle Jack’s Steakhouse is calling the shots at this organic fast casual spot and not surprisingly, it’s pretty good.
Today marks St. Patrick’s Day and what better way to ring that in than to focus on one of the island’s best watering holes that also serves great food; Corry’s Ale House, located in Wantagh.
Sure, it may be consistently below freezing now and for the past few months, but where others see a reason to stay home and sit in front of the fire, we see an opportunity to get out and try new and exciting yogurt shops. Who else in their right minds would want freezing desserts on a freezing day? We may be in a minority, but we’ll enjoy every chance that we can get. YOLO Yogurt in Roslyn is slower than normal due to the weather conditions, so this is your time to pounce. In the summer months we often have to wait on long lines to pay while our yogurt melts, but this time of year, that is not an issue.
We’re huge fans of Mediterranean cuisine and we’re also big on the concept of fast-casual, a genre that favorites such as Chiptole excel at all over the island. For years we have passed by Wild Fig on Northern Boulevard without going inside. If we had known that this location was a mash-up of all of those things that we love, we would have visited years sooner.
Mim’s in Syosset has been somewhat of an institution for the local area on Berry Hill Road. Although some of the restaurants that are located within earshot of Mim’s have turned over at least 5-6 times in almost as many years, Mim’s has proven to be a local favorite that is still catering to the same clientele that it did when it opened many years ago.
Great Neck’s new Bareburger is the first (but not the last) Long Island location of the popular restaurant that can be found throughout the NYC Metro area. Focusing on organic and quality ingredients, this new restaurant, located in an old retail store, is expanding the options on Middle Neck Road.
When we last visited Valley Stream’s favorite hibachi restaurant, Inatome, they were a few days away from their re-opening. Stricken by a fire on Halloween three years ago, they rebuilt better than ever. Although we had an exclusive photo tour of the restaurant, we needed to return to actually experience the food; and what a wonderful meal it was.
