Long Island Food News: Mitchell’s in Oceanside Set To Close On Sunday, July 12th

In somewhat-surprising news, Mitchell’s, one of Oceanside’s most notable diners, will be closing their doors to the public on Sunday, July 12, 2015. While we visited their diner multiple times over the years (some for Restaurant Hunter, on FiOS1 and then on our own with friends and family), we were always excited at finishing up dinner with one of their legendary ice cream treats.

Port Jefferson Station may not have the waterfront dining options that Port Jefferson has, but that doesn’t mean that we should leave them out in the cold and not visit. Northport is a wonderful village on the north shore of Suffolk County. The waterfront Main Street is a great spot to wander around both in the warmer weather and also when it’s a bit cooler and not as crowded.

Mitchell’s Restaurant in Oceanside

Mitchell’s Restaurant in Oceanside

Mitchell’s Restaurant in Oceanside has a name that is steeped in history. Since 1938, the Mitchell’s brand has been alive on Long Island. There may be two restaurants of the same name (there is another location in Valley Stream that was sold a few years back, but still retains the name), but when you experience Mitchell’s for yourself, you may find that there’s nothing like it anywhere else.
