5,400 square feet of Asian cuisine await at Ginza, one of the newest hot spots to open up on the south shore this year. The redesigned space, formerly a Sizzler Steakhouse in Massapequa, is a trendy haven for sushi lovers and interior design lovers alike.
When Inatome suffered a fire on October 31, 2010, the entire structure was affected and we weren’t quite sure if they would open their doors again to the general public. That answer came to us a few days ago when we learned that after an exhaustive 15 months of construction and upgrades, Inatome is back, and better than ever.
Tucked neatly in the back lobby of a Winthrop Hospital building in Garden City is Mumon Japanese Cuisine. Open since 2009, Mumon is a bright star in the local asian cuisine arena on the island. Owned by a distributor of seafood up and down the east coast, it seems a likely fit and an assurance that Mumon will receive the finest seafood available on a continual basis.
While most buffets will have you and everyone else circling around a large presentation table loaded with food (and who knows what germs), Sushi Palace is more refined in nature. All you can eat sushi comes from the sushi chefs behind the sushi bar while you request your next rolls with the waitstaff, made to order.
The very first time we visited Nisen Sushi in Commack quite some time ago (even before our visit to their sister in Woodbury) we were fooled by the drawn shades that covered the window and left before ever entering, thinking that they had closed shop. Thankfully, the next time we were wrong. A last ditch effort to gauge whether or not they were still around was met with relief as we entered this vibrant, happening sushi lounge.
Of all the restaurants on Long Island, Shiro of Japan may be the one that we visit the most. Located in the ground floor of the office building that East of NYC is based out of, we’re visiting them on an average of once per week for lunch and we sometimes stop in for dinner, as well.
On more than one occasion we’ve found ourselves wandering around the north shore of Nassau County and in the mood for thai. When that mood strikes us, we tend to always end up at SriPriPhai, in Williston Park. An offshoot to their other popular location in Woodside, Queens, this location is a bit larger, brighter and newer. We took a trip there not too long ago to capture some of their decor and dishes for our audience to see.
We’ll have more information on the cuisine and experience at Monsoon in Babylon Village, the newest of the Bohlsen Restaurant Group’s six restaurants on Long Island soon, but to tide you over we’ve visited their new location to see what this new hot spot looks like on the inside.
Merrick has found itself in the middle of a sushi war and from what we’ve been seeing over the past two years the competition is heating up with a few new spots opening their doors to try and convince their south shore customers that they’re the best. We’ve stopped by a few of the restaurants in the recent past to discover what’s unique about them and how they shape up next to their friendly rivals.
As a way to entice sushi lovers to come in and try out the new space, Massago in Oceanside is offering 1/2 price sushi as a celebration of their grand opening. They’ve replaced La Szechuan’s chinese restaurant with a beautifully decorated sushi spot.
