Sunday Brunch of the Week on Long Island: Grillfire in Merrick
Although Grillfire in Merrick may be known most for their excellent hamburgers (their own special blend, mixed for them by Main Street Meats), they also have a great Sunday brunch experience. Over the years we have frequented this popular spot, conveniently located on Sunrise Highway, to wind down the weekend and usher in the day of rest.
George Martin Restaurant Group has been around for quite some time on Long Island. For those who have lived here for any length of time, a lot of the restaurants that you may have come across may sound familiar. There’s the original George Martin (as well as the first Grillfire and the new GM Burger) in Rockville Centre and George Martin’s Strip Steak located in Suffolk County. The theme of the restaurants seem to be meat-obsessed, but owner George Korten is sticking to what he knows best – and what he is excelling in.
If we could give a reason to visit Grillfire for a Sunday morning it would be the included libations that come with brunch. With a choice of Bloody Mary, Mimosa, champagne or screwdrivers, the wonderful food is made even better when served with a delicious cocktail.
If brunch isn’t your thing, Grillfire for lunch or dinner is always a safe bet as well. The bar area is a perfect spot to watch the game. High tables surround the bar area and a few television sets are always tuned to the sporting event of the day. When the restaurant is in full swing, particularly over the weekends, we usually set up at the bar while we wait for the table to be ready (could be an hour or longer at the busiest times) and enjoy a few cold ones before we sit.
