Mitchell’s Restaurant in Oceanside

Mitchell’s Restaurant in Oceanside

Mitchell’s Restaurant in Oceanside has a name that is steeped in history. Since 1938, the Mitchell’s brand has been alive on Long Island. There may be two restaurants of the same name (there is another location in Valley Stream that was sold a few years back, but still retains the name), but when you experience Mitchell’s for yourself, you may find that there’s nothing like it anywhere else.

What started as an ice cream parlor has transformed into a diner setting. The ice cream is still around and is a main focal point of the menu, but the everyday food items are equally as impressive. The breakfast items; the pancakes, waffles and omelettes are all popular dishes (m&m or Oreo pancakes, anyone?) We indulged on the lunchtime tropical salmon salad; with its grilled salmon, lettuce, orange, cranberry and almonds rounding out a great flavor profile.

The ice cream is still homemade, with 11 flavors on tap (strawberry and pistachio top the favorites list). The ice cream machine in the basement is still churning out original recipes that date back to 1935, making this the diner on Long Island that makes the most fresh ice cream. The syrups are also made on premises and you’d be hard to find a better restaurant serving up ice cream in this neck of the woods.

Entrees can’t be forgotten and Mitchell’s has a vast amount of pasta, seafood and steak dishes on the menu. All of them are served in bigger than needed portions and should come with a doggy bag as standard.

Mitchell’s is a strong contender for all of your dining needs. They have a strong showing on all sides of the day’s meals; breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. You can find us customizing our pancake toppings a few times per year.
