Krisch’s Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor in Massapequa
Krisch’s Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor in Massapequa is not only a wildly popular restaurant on Long Island, but it is one that is steeped in history; one of the last remaining old-school ice cream shops around.
Owner Steve McCue is overseeing this period of time in Krisch’s history. An american fare restaurant that is known as much for their food as their ice cream (candy and chocolates, too!), Krisch’s is the perfect go-to spot with either the kids or those who only feel like they are still 8 years old. All of the flavors that are available at the dessert counter are made fresh within the restaurant. The ice cream maker in the back is in full swing at all times during the year and the flavor options are limitless. With the ability to control the output, if Steve thinks up a flavor, it can show up in the case within a few hours.
Krisch’s wasn’t always in this spot on Central Avenue. In 1920, the original location, in Bayridge, Brooklyn, threw open its doors. Due to the economic downturn of the time, they closed down that location to open up a new Queens location in this 1930’s. In 1955 it was moved from Queens to its current location and since that time, many generations of Long Islanders have come in to enjoy their ice cold dessert treats. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, whenever that craving strikes, they will be there to serve.
In addition to their wonderful desserts, Krisch’s also has a food challenge or two; for anyone who dares to finish. For a look at that, the video below from Restaurant Hunter, on FiOS1 Long Island dives deep into the hamburger abyss.
