Harbor Crab Co. in Patchogue

Harbor Crab Co. in Patchogue

Just because the winter weather is arriving doesn’t mean that you have to leave that summertime feeling behind. Harbor Crab Co. in Patchogue is a waterfront restaurant / bar that strives to keep that season going all year long; and from what we’ve experienced, they’re succeeding.

The first thing you’ll walk past when entering the restaurant are two palm trees flanking the main entrance. If you look beyond the restaurant’s entrance to the side, you’ll notice the outdoor seating area that overlooks the waterfront area and the boats that are docked in the marina. The interior space has great views as well; each dining area has clear views of the water.

The bar area is where most of the action is happening on the nights and weekends. The bar plays host to drink specials and live music and is known for being quite the happening spot in Patchogue. Its relaxed vibe and casual decor left us feeling as if we were on vacation in south Florida.

The restaurant used to have a dry dock on the side where you could have drinks and food but they have recently changed their philosophy and have just purchased a riverboat that after a complete renovation will sit docked next to the restaurant and will be home to catering, private parties, special events and their upcoming Sunday brunch offerings. We look forward to the opening of this unique space.

We happened to stop by for lunch and as you would expect, the menu relies heavily on seafood. Crab, lobster, shrimp and other seafood dishes populate the menu and Harbor Crab was nice enough to provide us with one of their well known lobster rolls to photograph, and then soon eat. The lobster, served fresh and not defrosted from the freezer, was served cold on a toasted New England style hot dog bun and was mixed with celery and served with french fries on the side. We’re particular about how much mayonnaise is in our lobster rolls and we found this one to well proportioned, packed to the gills with fresh lobster and hugely satisfying. The price for the lobster roll is also not going to empty your wallet at a reasonable $12 for lunch.

If there is one special feature of Harbor Crab that we could let you know about, it’s that on Thursdays for lunch and dinner they run a special of three 1-pound lobsters with vegetables and potatoes all for the price of $39.95. This seems to be one of the better deals that we have found on the island for lobster and it’s exciting that you can get it right there on the water, each and every Thursday.

If you want a relaxed restaurant with a comfortable vibe, diverse seafood menu and an experience that won’t break the bank, Harbor Crab Co. is your go-to spot in Patchogue. There’s plenty to offer for both lunch and dinner and we’ll be making our way back for that gerat lobster special in the near future.
