Blackstone Steakhouse in Melville

Blackstone Steakhouse in Melville

Widely celebrated and often pricy, Anthony Scotto Restaurants dominate the upper-echelon of Long Island’s dining scene. Known for their large restaurants and magnificent decor, Scotto is a well respected name. With Rare 650 in Syosset, Insignia in Smithtown and Blackstone Steakhouse in Melville, they’re a staple of the power-crowd.

We’re not always fans of dropping $150 on dinner for two, so in situations like these; when we want to experience a higher-end restaurant for less cost, we’re more than content to visit at lunchtime, sit down at the bar and order a few appetizers. A few months ago, that is just what we did.

The bar scene at lunch is quite busier than we expected. A business-oriented crowd had control of the bar area on this weekday meal but there was room enough to sit down and order a drink and survey the situation. There is a sushi bar when you walk in immediately on your right that is serving up very expensive special rolls ($20+) and in front of the sushi bar lies the main dining room, broken up into a few separate compartments.

Being a steakhouse, the menu is heavier on beef than it is on seafood. For appetizers we went with the fried calamari, served in lettuce and lightly tossed in a tangy and sweet sauce. A neighboring diner ordered the Kobe Beef appetizer, which we’ve had on occasion at TOKU in Manhasset, and this was served much in the same way. Raw Kobe Beef was served with a hot stone and a pair of tongs for the customer to cook to their desired temperature.

We haven’t yet dabbled in their full entree menu. Arriving at their bar and for the purposes of a quick bite and a drink (or two), we didn’t get to fully experience Blackstone and their signature dishes. However, we do plan on returning and when we do, we’ll make sure to bring someone special, a large appetite and of course, our AmEx. We think we’ll need it.
